Free Loft Insulation — The Easiest Energy Upgrade
Loft insulation is the single most cost-effective way to reduce your energy bills. A quarter of your home's heat escapes through an uninsulated roof. Through ECO4 — and through LA Flex or the Warm Homes: Local Grant if you don't claim benefits — you can get loft insulation installed for free.

Do I Need Loft Insulation?
Government guidelines recommend 270mm of loft insulation. If yours is less than 100mm (about 4 inches) — or if you have none at all — you almost certainly qualify for a free top-up or full installation.
How It's Installed
Loft insulation rolls are laid between and over the joists in your loft space. The process:
- Takes 2-4 hours
- Installers access via your loft hatch
- No disruption to the rooms below
- Existing insulation is topped up, not removed

Government grants for loft insulation
Three government-backed schemes currently fund loft insulation, each with different criteria and deadlines:
